People keep asking us “How tough is the iPhone?”. So we got Marty, his iPhone and a Otterbox Defender case and let gravity do its thing. Sir Isaac Newton would be proud.

For the record, the phone survived multiple drops out of a three story building with only a small scratch on the case.  (To be fair, we didn’t do this final test onto concrete.)

Here at VisFleet, we use the iPhone to send new job information to workers in the field and get them to update us on their status.  For more information on how to do this yourself, check out vWork and make sure you sign up for the free trial.

vWork 1.7 Released

vWork 1.7 is a big release for us. We’re introducing exciting new functionality to our maps, and we’re rolling out our new look and feel.

Maps now show Worker’s Jobs.

The maps screen can now display a worker’s schedule. You’ll notice there’s a new drop-down box at the top of the screen. This lets you select a worker. Once a worker is selected, their day’s schedule is overlaid on the map. You can easily visualize where the worker’s been (i.e. completed work) and where they’re going (i.e. upcoming jobs), making it easier to minimize travel distances in your schedule. No more scheduling a worker to travel from one side of the city to the other.

Updated look and feel

We’re also rolling out our new look and feel (for the non-designers out there. this means ‘how stuff looks’). We’ve worked hard to make every button in the application more readable, more obvious (if you need to read a manual, then we’ve failed), and just generally more polished looking. We hope you enjoy it.

Announcing vWork 1.6: Maps

We’re pleased to announce vWork 1.6. In this release we’re taking our first steps towards bringing location information to dispatch. You’ll notice a new tab at the top of the screen, Map.

Click the Map tab and you’ll be presented with an interactive street map. Jobs that have been given a valid street address (remember the Located on Map) are displayed on the map. We support two types of maps: Map which is a street map, and Satellite which shows you satellite imagery. Jobs are represented by blue triangles.

We’ve also got some exciting features planned for up coming releases that make further use of the map, so stay tuned.
