McCarthy’s Challenge
McCarthy’s logging operation covers most of the lower North Island. 67 trucks are used to move over 3,000 tonnes of logs per day. Log movements are planned the night before – to be ready when the drivers climb into their trucks at 5AM – and are then adjusted throughout the day as available stock and orders change. Coordinating a schedule across 67 trucks is hard, and the McCarthy operation was at breaking point.
