2 additional iPad car mounts

Yesterday I wrote about one iPad mount and four smartphone mounts. (Well, there were two options for the iPad mount if you included Velcro). I did some more looking today and found a couple more tablet vehicle mounts (that work with the iPad and iPad 2 of course). Here they are:

Additional tablet mounts for vehicles

Arkon Universal Tablet Car Mount

The first tablet mount in the image above is the Arkon Universal Tablet Car Mount. This mount will hold any 7” to 12” tablet. The tablet holder on the mount can rotate 360 degrees for portrait or landscape views.

This tablet mount has an 18” flexible aluminum pedestal, which attaches to your vehicle’s seat rail bolt. For now the going price is $39.95.

Satechi ST-TP01 Car Holder Mount

The second tablet mount in the image above is the Satechi ST-TP01 Car Holder Mount. It can hold 5” to 10” smartphones or tablets. The mount can be securely placed anywhere on your dashboard.

You can adjust your tablet or smartphone horizontally or vertically on the mount, but I don’t think it has the ability to rotate 360 degrees. However, the current price for this tablet/smartphone mount is a little less than the Arkon mount mentioned above. This mount is currently selling for $29.99.

You can find both of these mounts on Amazon.com.

iPad and smartphone mounts for your car

The problem with the iPad is that it’s too big to fit comfortably in one hand, unless you can balance it like a waiter can balance a tray of dishes. Otherwise, you need to use both hands. Or you can use a stand, a table, or your lap. Those options are great except for when you’re driving.

Now you shouldn’t be driving and playing with your iPad at the same time. But for those of us who have jobs that require us to drive and check our mobile devices every few minutes (when we’re safely stopped of course), using both hands to check updates on our iPad is challenging.

That’s where an iPad mount comes in: an iPad mount makes checking your iPad a lot easier when you’re in your car.

iPad vehicle mounts

Jesse Rosten's iPad and Velcro

The cheapest way to mount your iPad is by using some tape, glue or Velcro. The awesome video (linked on the right) shows you how to mount your iPad with Velcro!

If you need something that’s a bit more secure than Velcro or Elmer’s Glue, you can try a mount designed specifically for the iPad.

And that’s where Ram Mounts comes in.

Ram Mounts for the iPad

Ram MountsI highly recommend checking out Ram Mounts if you’re looking for iPad vehicle mounts other than Velcro.

For example, the product image to the right is a non-locking mount that currently only costs $23.35 (product number: RAM-HOL-AP8U).

It can hold your iPad (and the iPad 2) and it features a patent-pending roller design so you can easily slide your iPad in and out of the cradle.

You will also still have access to all of the iPad’s electrical ports. You don’t have to remove your iPad from the cradle to plug your headphones in.

Smartphone mounts for your vehicle

Maybe you don’t use an iPad, but you do use a smartphone. There are many smartphone vehicle mounts to choose from. After a bit of research I found the following 4 mounts on Amazon.com. Each one was highly affordably and highly rated.

The ratings for these products reflect what was on each product’s Amazon.com page on Wednesday, September 28th. All prices, ratings, features, etc. may change.

4 smartphone vehicle mounts

1. One of the most highly rated smartphone vehicle mounts on Amazon.com was the Satechi CR-3600. You can mount your iPhone (and other smartphones) on your windshield or dashboard, and it currently only costs $27.99.

2. Another highly rated smartphone mount is the Mountek MT5000. One of the best things about this mount is that it will “hold virtually any small portable electronic device.” If you decide to invest $19.95 in this device, you can use it to hold an old cell phone, a GPS device, or an MP3 player. Just remember that this goes in your CD slot in your car!

3. The Arkon SM410 is very affordable and very well liked. This smartphone holder will fit most smartphones and PDA’s, and you can stick it wherever you want! It comes with a suction mount, dash mount, and an air vent mount.

4. And finally there’s the Macally mCup Adjustable Cup Holder vehicle mount. This smartphone holder is only $10.99 and fits in your car’s cup holder. It should fit most smartphones, but I read one review on Amazon that said that a smartphone with a case could be a tight fit, which could be a good thing: it’s very secure. She loved and recommended the Macally mCup.

There you have it. 1 awesome iPad mount and 4 awesome smartphone mounts. Each one will make using your mobile device in your car a lot easier.

You can try using Velcro too, of course.
