vWorkApp 4.12.2 Has Been Released

This morning we released vWorkApp 4.12.2, here is a summary of all the changes:

Real Time Job Status

Job ActivityWe have added a new panel of information on the right hand side of the map. This panel is intended to show you the latest status for all your jobs.

The top half of the panel shows you how many jobs have been updated in the last 24 hours. This allows you to see how many jobs have been completed, how many are in progress and how many haven’t been started yet.  If you have accept and decline jobs turned on, it will also show you if you have any declined jobs that you need to re-assign to a worker.

By default this data is for all of your workers for the last 24 hours. However, if you select a worker on the map or from the search results, this panel will update to show only the jobs for the selected worker. (You can also choose a different time frame from the pull down menu.)

Below this panel we now display a list of the most recent job updates, including their current status, who they are assigned to and how long ago they were updated.

New Push Notifications

Example of a vWorkApp Push NotificationPreviously if you deleted an assigned job from the schedule or re-assigned it to a new worker, the original job just quietly disappeared from the original worker’s phone.

We have now added push notifications to alert mobile workers that a job has been removed from their schedule by a dispatcher. We have also added push notifications to mobile workers for when a dispatcher manually steps a job forwards or backwards.

Live Google Traffic Reporting

You may have noticed in our last release that we have grouped all of the map view options under a new menu on the map page called “View”. Today we have added a new view option under this menu. It is now possible to turn on “Traffic” from the “View” menu.

Google Traffic Layer for Auckland, New Zealand

This will display the latest Google Traffic conditions for major roads. Google Traffic is available throughout most of the world, but not everywhere. If you would like to check and see if Google Traffic is available for your area, you can do so here:  http://maps.google.com/?layer=t

Tweaks, Bugs and Minor Improvements

As well as these new features we have also been working on lots of small tweaks and bug fixes, these include:

  • This release converts two more sections from Flash to HTML. The Admin/Settings page as well as the Admin/Customers pages are now HTML and usable from either iPads or Android tablets.  (Only two more pages to go now!)
  • We now show the date as well as the time on job and step flyouts on the map.
  • Customer name and Template name are now displayed for jobs in search results on the map.
  • Clicking the job icon on the maps no longer deselect the worker.
  • We now display jobs, workers and customers in the map search results even if we don’t have a known location for them.  These results are labeled “Location Unknown” and are not clickable.
  • It is now possible to email a Job Sheet report if you are still using Internet Explorer.
  • It is now possible to download large Job Receipts as PDFs.
  • Step icons on the map now show the actual completed time rather than the completed time of the 1st step.
  • Unassigned jobs now show on the map even if the 1st step location is blank.
  • Worker’s current speed on the map now displays in MPH or KPH depending on what country you are in.
  • And a number of behind the scenes improvements aimed at increasing performance for accounts with large numbers of jobs.

All of these updates have already been made to the vWorkApp website, please let us know if you run into any problems.

vWorkApp 4.12.1 for Android Now Available

vWorkApp 4.12.1 is now available for Android phones and tablets. This release includes a number of improvements, including:

1.  It fixes a bug with previous versions where text entered by the phone user was being lost if the text entry window was left open for too long.

2.  vWorkApp for Android now uses Google Cloud Messaging (on Android 2.2 and above). Instead of checking for updates every few minutes, new jobs will be pushed to your phone as soon as they are sent. You get your jobs sooner, while using less battery and data.

3.  We have removed the setting from the menu that allows you to control how often the phone syncs with the server. With push notifcations, all data is pushed down to the phone as soon as it is available, so there is no longer a need to synchronise every 30 seconds.

4.  We have added a number of new icons in the job list to make it easier to see the current status of each job. If you have accept and decline jobs turned on, jobs that have not yet been accepted or declined are marked with a question mark. If you have not viewed a new job yet, it is marked with an “N”.

In the screen capture to the right, the first job is not new and has been accepted. The second job has been viewed, but has not yet been accepted or declined. And finally, the last job has not been viewed, accepted or declined by the phone user.

5.  Links in read only custom fields can now be tapped to open them on the phone if they include phone numbers, web addresses or email addresses.

6.  Some behind the scenes improvements to reduce the amount of data that is sent over the air (compressing GPS data,  smarter synching, etc).

As this release contains a number of bug fixes, we advise that you upgrade your phones and tablets as soon as possible to avoid any problems.

You can download the update directly from the Google Play app on your Android phone or tablet.

Simply open Google Play and search for vWorkApp.

If your device offers you the option, you should allow it to upgrade vWorkApp automatically when new versions become available.

In the example to the left this can be done by selecting the “Allow automatic updating” option in Google Play when you upgrade vWorkApp.

vWorkApp 4.10 for iOS is now Available

vWorkApp 4.10 for iOS is now available from the iTunes App Store.  There are a couple of changes in this version that you should be aware of.

You may notice that the “synchronise every” setting is no longer visible in the settings screen. In 4.10 changes made on the phone are uploaded to the server as soon as they are made and changes made on the server are pushed back down to the phone in real time. As a result, it is no longer necessary for you to define how often the phone should complete a scheduled synch.

The other improvement we have made is to the tracking feature.  Previously you could set the hours on the phone that you wanted to be tracked.  However, vWorkApp would not start tracking you until you opened the app the next day.  In version 4.10, vWorkApp will now report your location  regardless of whether or not the app is running (while still respecting your operating hours setting).

In order to ensure that you don’t have any problems with battery life or privacy, please make sure that your accuracy is set to automatic and you adjust your operating hours and days to times when you wish to share your location.
